Sometimes we design for humans, other times for inanimate objects with incredible sentimental value: our client here was really a collection of historic artefacts and jewels from Central Asia, and its owner could not care for anything else. However, we did.

Location was secluded – 3 hectares tucked on top of a hill, at the end of a bumpy road – but once there the view and the sense of peace were breathless. We divided the villa roughly into 4 blocks with a clear sequence: a garage area with staff quarters and technical rooms; a bridge running to the main entrance; the main villa with a double-height living room and a winter gardena; a guest areas with 4 guest suites, pool, sauna, billiard and cinema; a glass gallery leading to the bedrooms and ending in a zen garden. The bedrooms for the 2 kids were split level and had their own garden. The master bedroom was actually 2 connected bedrooms opened to the view and to the zen garden.

The collection was placed along the route that the client would follow when coming back home: entry – family room – pool – gallery – master bedroom. It might be redundant to say that the best piece was here in front of the bed.
